Participants will learn about:
- organizing a market
- recruiting and selecting vendors
- tips on marketing and selling self/farm produced products
Vendors and market staff will be available to answer questions. A follow up hands-on educational opportunity will be held on May 19th-20th where participants will have an opportunity to join a farm crew as they prepare for a market. Then on Sunday, May 20th, participants will have a chance to set up with local vendors for the day to see how a vendor’s booth is run.

We invite the community out to Millican Reserve to gather and learn about handling and preparing winter vegetables from the farm.
This month we are focusing on preparing mixed winter greens. These nutrient rich vegetables are versatile and participants will explore the vegetables seasonally available in the late fall and early winter.
We will focus on one or two main ingredients and discuss, in-depth, the process of seed selection, planting practices, signs of plant maturity, harvest, cleaning and storing techniques and a tips on how to prepare unique seasonal vegetables. Participants will then have an opportunity to sample some prepared treats from the garden.

We invite you to join us for an in-depth look at the late winter garden and a workshop focused on planning ahead to spring. This class will take a close look at the different stages of transition during the month of February.
We will discuss ground and soil amendments and preparation, seed and seasonal plant selection and other tasks that need to be done during the winter months to prepare for the spring season.

The month of February is a celebration of root vegetables in Texas.
This workshop will take a closer look at the life cycle of root vegetables from bed and soil preparation, planting, propagation and harvest. From planting asparagus crowns, treating onion sets, preparing and curing potatoes and selecting quick crop seeds, this class offers a comprehensive look at root vegetables.

A one-day workshop on the Texas Cottage Food Law, State Farmers’ Market Regulations, Selling Yard Eggs, GAPs for Gardens/Small Producers, Food Preservation Basics, and Food Safety training.
The workshop will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Food Handlers class will be conducted from 2:15 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. The cost is $12.00 and includes lunch. There is an extra $20.00 fee for the Food Handlers class.
To attend the class, please register through the Brazos County Extension office by April 15, 2019.
